My name is Ms Tricia Poon. I have been teaching English to both local and international students and adults for more than 20 years. Being a former English teacher and lecturer, I have wealth of teaching experience with students of different abilities, needs, and personalities. I find creative means to engage my students. Hence, students and adults alike, not only enjoy my innovative pedagogy, but have also been inspired by my instruction.
I have also been tutoring and coaching students (including my own children) in both primary and secondary schools, as well as training students for the IELTS exam. Some of my students even aced their English exams, and many of them continue to fare well in their English at a higher level.
With a post-graduate diploma in Counselling with University of Wales (UK) and a Master in Clinical Counselling (TCA), I can better understand and connect with my students. Students are generally comfortable in relating to me as a teacher.
As a former English lecturer, I developed and wrote the curricula for Study Skills in English Language at Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) and the Business Communication module at Millennia Institute.
As a corporate trainer, I conduct workshops on Business English, Business Communication, Grammar and Email Etiquette regularly. My clients include staff at different levels from both governmental agencies and private companies.
As for the IELTS programme, I have taught students from China including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Vietnam, Japan, Korea, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Philippines, Russia, Mongolia, Mexico, Germany and Nigeria. Most of my international students have done well to enrol in a diploma or university course either in Singapore or overseas. Having a Master’s in Intercultural Studies and years of interaction with international learners, I am able to connect and engage students of different nationalities.
I have a great passion to teach and my motto is to inspire, impart and impact the students. My greatest satisfaction is to witness the learning process of my students and see them succeed in life.
